Drain Alert recently completed one of the most technically demanding CCTV drain survey projects in our history — a survey of a large surface water pipe running beneath the Etihad Stadium at Sportcity, Manchester.
At 22 metres in depth with two landings, this was one of the deepest manholes our team has ever surveyed. A project of this nature demands far more than standard survey equipment and expertise. To ensure both the safety of our team and the success of the survey, we mobilised an eight-man crew that included a dedicated rescue capability — a requirement when working in deep, confined spaces of this nature.
Before our team could descend, anchor points were installed to the chamber wall to provide secure, compliant safe working at depth throughout the operation.
Sportcity itself is one of the UK’s most significant sports infrastructure sites. Developed on previously derelict land for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, it is home to the Etihad Stadium — Manchester City Football Club’s 53,000-capacity ground — as well as the National Squash Centre, Manchester Regional Arena, English Institute of Sport, Manchester Velodrome, and the Tennis Centre.
Projects of this complexity — combining deep confined space working with CCTV survey at a high-profile, live commercial venue — are exactly the kind of technically demanding work in which Drain Alert specialises. If you have a drainage asset that presents challenging access conditions, our team has the qualifications, equipment, and experience to deliver.
